After reading Winter Dreams I learned that in order to understand things you sometimes have to read in between the lines. Essentially Dexter Green is a caddy at a country club, but his real dream is to be more than just a caddy. Then he grows up and goes to the University to further his studies. Then he became a successful owner of a laundry company. When he is playing a round of golf, with the old gentlemen he used to caddy for, he ran into Judy Jones. They have a few dates and it seems that he falls in love with her. Then she leaves town, so he gets engaged to Irene Scheerer. Judy then comes back and he realizes that he is not so in love with Judy as he thought he was. That is only the basics of what happened. When you read in between the lines is where you find the real story. It isnt’ just about Dexter chasing Judy, its about chasing something he can’t have. There is always that human nature to go for the challenge. Dexter wanted to be the only man in Judy’s life but he wasn’t. Judy is looking for something deeper i believe she tries to find something in all of these men that she is “hanging” out with. I think she finds that in Dexter but realizes when she comes back that she lost him forever.
